While walking through downtown I noticed bright orange sand
bags.
These were used to secure temporary construction signs on
the streets and sidewalks.
I was struck with the brutal simplicity of them.
Plain sand was neatly wrapped in plastic burlap like bags.
They had simple straps to hold the sand inside.
There in the midst of tall skyscrapers, honking taxis and
convention goers were sand bags.
The ultimate low tech things were used to keep order in
swirl of high tech currents.
I see you there silent servants.
If there was no sand then the bags and ties would wash or blow away. If there were no bags then the sand would wash and blow away. If there were no ties then the sand would wash or blow away. SO the three parts are needed and no more.
ReplyDeleteThis morning many huge buses streamed into the front entrance of the massive convention center that is several block long. Hundreds of people were in place before 800 AM to greet and meet the thousands of others that would be coming for the rest of the day. Those dozens of good old sand bags were part of the business day that no one noticed. What are the other silent servants facilitate our modern lives?
